CIE428: Steel Design

The course focuses on analysis and design of steel structures. Topics addressed in the class include material properties, probabilistic underpinnings of structural steel design, tension members, compression members, beams and beam-columns, welded and bolted connections, composite construction, and design of steel structures for fire loading.

CIE522: Design of Structures for fire

This course focuses on behavior and design of structural elements and systems under fire. Topics addressed in this course include fire load, material properties at elevated temperatures, fire resistance of structures, current code guidelines and standards for fire design, analytical tools, and risk assessment frameworks for fire.

CIE416: Civil Engineering Capstone Design

This course focuses on a design problem that is drawn from industry. Students work in teams and are required to complete a preliminary structural design of  a low-rise steel building, including gravity and lateral load resisting systems and foundations. The teams are also responsible to develop project and team management plans and provide estimates of material quantities.
